Adriano is an expert in Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, and Sensor Networks. He was a researcher at Cornell doing IC design and was working on his PhD at Stanford when he dropped out to start Focal. Currently, he oversees the technical team and research team and splits his time between embedded systems, Deep Learning, product, and infrastructure.
Francois was an EE masters then CS masters from Stanford University. He researched Deep Learning and Computer Vision under Fei Fei Li in the Computer Vision and Geometry Lab. He was a Deep Learning Researcher at Apple working on secret projects. Before that, he was a Missile Guidance Algorithm Engineer at Lockheed Martin working on Kalman filter/Information theory. He heads up Deep Learning Research, Sales, and Strategy.
Michael was most recently the Director of Channel Sales at inDinero where he managed strategic partnerships nationally as a Finance and Tax consultant across all verticals. Prior to that, he developed digital marketing campaigns for the Fortune 1000. Michael is a strong believer that technology and the right leadership can drive the success of any business.
Kathy has over 25 years of experience in Consumer Packaged Goods. Kathy worked at Nielsen for 15 years, overseeing media and advertising consulting for CPG advertisers and retailers, specializing in digital and social media effectiveness, big data analytics, and marketing mix/marketing ROI. Kathy also spent 10 years at Procter & Gamble where she led corporate new product forecasting and pricing optimization.
Aaron has a broad range of skills/talents/interests rooted in design, hardware, and manufacturing. He thrives off developing concepts and watching them come to life to exist in material form. He's driven by holistic understanding and the educational path it leads him on. Aaron is happiest merging art and science with his hands, cross-linking different disciplines to find creative solutions to challenging problems. He has an unquenchable curiosity that drives him to keep reaching higher.
JT has over 20 years of experience in Customer Success and Professional Services with emerging technology companies. JT has worked with contact centers, retail organizations, and back office operations in Fortune 1000 enterprises to deploy and support end user applications and analytics platforms while at Kana Software, Merced Systems, NICE Systems, and Qubole. He has experience running a $20M+ services business as well as starting global services and support functions in early-stage companies. He is responsible for implementation, education, support, and the success of customers deploying Focal Systems technologies. JT lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and loves getting outside, whether running, backpacking, or skiing.
Ari has a breadth of experience in engineering high performance compute systems capable of ingesting, understanding, and responding to vast quantities of data. He studied CS at UCLA and Stanford, specializing in information management artificial intelligence. Prior to Focal Systems, Ari worked on the infrastructure team at Facebook, conducted research in database theory and distributed system design, and contributed to the open source datastore community.
Tobias is the product manager for Focal's inventory optimization product line. Originally from Germany, he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and Queen's University in Canada. After completing his master's degree in San Francisco, Tobias headed up marketing for consumer tech startup Revolights before joining Focal.
Angela is a Product Designer focused on the balance between understanding users' needs and business objectives. She loves talking to people and figuring out what makes them tick. Angela has a Masters in Human Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University and previously worked at Apple. She's happy to be back in California sunshine.
Tim is a Software Engineer from McGill University who handles software R&D. Tim heads up the development of our Android applications. He garnered experience in graphics at INT Inc. Before that, he worked on filter theory and state estimation for the McGill Robotics team.
Łukasz has 12 years of professional programming experience. He started as Java developer in one of biggest Polish banks, then worked for several years at Sabre Travel Network. 7 years ago Łukasz decided to try his hand at Android dev, and since then mastered his skills working at some of the best Polish and German companies. He continues his Android development here at Focal. When he is not pushing pixels, he is enjoying video games, sci-fi movies, and books.
Agastya was a CS Undergrad at University of Waterloo before working at Focal. At Waterloo he did research in the field of Sum-Product Networks and built the world’s fastest sum product network library. At Focal he executes on all of our Deepest Learning initiatives, both R&D and production and manages data collection and labeling.
Thomas is a geophysicist turned deep learning scientist. He has a master's degree from Ecole Normale Superieure in France and was working on his PhD at Stanford on uncertainty quantification in Earth Sciences before dropping out and joining Focal’s team. Thomas has an incommensurable love for the outdoors and can be found climbing Yosemite’s walls when he is not coding.
Dustin completed his PhD at Stanford doing gradient-based optimization of FEA structures. He has a dual BS from BYU in math and ME, and has MS degrees from Stanford in computational and mathematical engineering (ICME) and ME. Throughout his academic career Dustin has done basic physics research as well as work in machine learning and optimization at several labs across the country. Dustin enjoys distance running, hiking, camping, traveling, watching sports, playing yo-yo, and his top priorities are being an awesome husband and father.
Amol obtained a B.Tech degree in Engineering Physics from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. Then he moved to Canada to pursue graduate studies in Neuroscience, where he earned MSc and PhD degrees from McGill University in Montreal. At McGill he performed research to further understand how neural networks in our brain process visual scenes. Now as a Deep Learning Engineer at Focal, he applies his knowledge from engineering and neuroscience to solve problems in computer vision.
Stan earned his BSc in Mathematics and MSc in Physics from the University of Warsaw in Poland, then obtained a Ph.D. at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. Over the course of his career, he performed research at various laboratories in Europe and the US gaining a vibrant academic record in the acquisition, processing, and analysis of photodetector data. Most recently Stan worked in SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford University. Now he applies his data science skills designing data processing pipelines at Focal Systems. Among many other talents, Stan is a semi-professional classical guitar player, ski instructor and yacht skipper, and most importantly for him a husband and father of 4 great kiddos.
Austin is an Embedded Systems Engineer at Focal working on embedded platforms, integrated circuits, and sensors. He is captivated by understanding where hardware and software meet. Austin studied Computer Science at Boston University and previously worked on software for nanosatellites at Pumpkin Space Inc. In his spare time, Austin can be found working on various open-source side projects or hiking out among the redwoods.
Jonathan studied Mathematical Physics and Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, and is using his technical knowledge to lead Focal's Canadian Operations team. He frequently works with the Deep Learning team to create data requirements and collection methods for training Focal's computer vision algorithms, as well as developing and refining new operations processes and tools. In his free time, Jonathan keeps current with the latest advances in the aviation, space and automotive industries, and enjoys Korean movies, television and music.
Cameron Weigel has found himself to be an effective multi-tool in all departments. With degrees in Economics and Applied Mathematics from the University of California, Davis, Cameron manages logistics and manufacturing at Focal. With interests in most fields of design and engineering, Cameron loves balancing his work with learning from the rest of the team. In his free time, Cameron enjoys hiking the trails of Half Moon Bay and cooking well-deserved comfort food.
